When Vice President Harris, in the midst of a migration surge left to the Biden Administration by the Trump administration's unforgiving decimation of a functioning, humane immigration system, told the people of the northern triangle countries 'Do not come' to flood the US-Mexico border because the new administration was working as diligently as it could to set up an asylum system that people could apply to from their home countries, the response from the alt-left's so-called Squad was derision bordering on outrage.
Self-proclaimed progressive gatekeepers like Alexandria Ocasio Cortez and Ilhan Omar accused the Vice President of violating migrants' rights to seek asylum, just as Republicans were busy theatrically overplaying the border surge and blaming the Biden administration for it. Some alt-left, open-border groups went further, accusing the holder of the highest office ever reached an American born to two immigrant parents of being hypocritical.
As it turns out, though, talk is cheap. When the time came for these same characters to vote in favor of immigration, especially immigration for people whose lives are in demonstrated danger in their home countries, how would they vote?
Well, that time came today, and Ocasio Cortez, Omar, and four of their colleagues that complete the group of far-left chaos caucus known as the "Squad", in unison, voted to bar refugees who have risked their lives to help Americans from entering the United States.
Today, the House and the Senate voted on an emergency bill to approve funding and resources for a program that assists Afghan translators who helped US and allied forces relocate, as well as replenish the resources for the Capitol Police and the National Guard depleted due to the January 6 insurrection by Trump-supporting domestic terrorists. With US forces withdrawing from Afghanistan and large swaths of the country falling into Taliban hands, Afghan translators - whom the Taliban refer to as 'eyes' for Americans - and their families are in real mortal danger.
The legislation sailed through both chambers with ease. The Senate voted 98-0, and the House passed the measure by a margin of 416-11. But the full "squad" of six alt-left members - Reps. Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jamaal Bowman, Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley, and Cori Bush - joined hands with five pro-insurrectionist, far-right, anti-mask Republicans to fringe 11. The five Republican partners in crime for AOC and gang were: Second Amendment Caucus Co-Chair Thomas Massie, Freedom Caucus members Ralph Norman, Bob Good, and Chip Roy, and Hunter Biden conspiracy theorist Rep. Tom McClintock.
So far, there has been no public explanations from any of the Squad members about why they joined five anti-immigrant, far-right white Republican men as their sole comrades in this vote, but in voting either present or 'NO' to a previous version of the bill in May, some of the members explained that they were voting their slogan: defund the police. They said they couldn't possibly vote to properly fund the people who protected their very lives on January 6. However, it turns out that these hypocrites, almost to a person, availed themselves to extra police protection at taxpayer expense.
Today, they voted to uphold that blatant, damaging hypocrisy. Whether they considered denying Afghan refugees who quite literally face being hunted down and killed in their own country for having helped Americans a mainstay of that vote or just a side benefit, they never deserve to be taken seriously on any issue, let alone on immigration.
